Tang Wei made her big-screen debut in Ang Lee's 'Lust, Caution', winning an Independent Spirit award for best female lead. Tang is already a highly respected name in mainland China, with performances in stage plays and an award-winning role in the telefilm 'Jinghua Swallow' to her name.

Tang was born in Hangzhou, a beautiful city near Shanghai, China. As a teenager, she began modelling - and in 2004, made it to the final round of the Miss Universe pageant in Beijing. Following this, she graduated from China's prestigious Central Academy of Drama with a major in Film Directing. Already something of a star in China after performances on stage, as well as the telefilm 'Jinghua Swallow' (for which she won the Best Actress award at the 2006 CCTV Movie Channel Awards), her fame is beginning to spread beyond her homeland's borders. Recently, Tang Wei was nominated for an Independent Spirit award for best female lead for her work in Ang Lee's 'Lust, Caution'. She has also written short novels and stage drama, and has directed theatre productions.
