Sam Riley's debut as a leading actor came playing Joy Division's troubled front man Ian Curtis in 'Control', earning him many awards including Best Actor at the Edinburgh Film Festival. He's also appeared in '24 Hour Party People', and can soon be seen performing alongside Eva Green and Ryan Philippe in 'Franklyn'.

Sam Riley is originally from Leeds. He made his debut as a leading actor in 'Control', a film by Anton Corbijn, in which he portrayed the tragic lead singer of the 1970s post-punk band Joy Division. His performance in the role won him the British Independent Film Award for Most Promising Newcomer. He also played Mark E. Smith, this time the lead singer of seminal band The Fall, in Michael Winterbottom's '24 Hour Party People', alongside Steve Coogan. Besides his work as an actor, Sam is front man and songwriter with the Leeds-based band 10,000 Things. His most recent role is in the sci-fi film 'Franklyn', directed by Gerald McMorrow and also starring Eva Green and Ryan Philippe, due for release in 2008. He lives in Berlin and Leeds.
